What does the i mean?

iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc.

Ever wonder what the i in iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc. stands for? I’ve been using Apple i products for almost 20 years and didn’t know what the i stood for. It often crossed my mind, but I had never taken the time to find out until a few days ago.

Steve Jobs introduced i with the introduction of the first iMac in 1998. He said it is the marriage of the excitement of the Internet with the simplicity of the Macintosh, hence the i for Internet.

Additionally, he said i also means other things to us. These are: individual, which refers to the personal nature of the computer; instruct, as the computer was also intended for educational purposes; inform; and inspire. That’s it.
