Renewing my Feedbin subscription: A tough decision
My Feedbin RSS service is coming up for renewal in a few weeks, and I’m undecided about whether I will renew it.
Last year, I wrote that I had finally had enough of using Reeder’s flakey iCloud sync service.
Reeder iCloud sync has been flaky since the 5.3.5 or 5.3.6 update 2 weeks ago. It’s fucking annoying me to no end. I have two options for resolving this frustration.
First I can subscribe to Feedbin which works fine with Reeder. Its sync is really fast. Of course, that’s going to cost me $50 bucks a year. Or second I can switch to NetNewsWire where iCloud sync works without issue. In fact, it’s nearly as fast as Feedbin’s sync.
My dilemma is this. I prefer Reeder over NetNewsWire. But am I willing to pay $50 a year for Feedbin to continue using it?
Now I’m faced with the same decision again. I’ve been testing iCloud sync on both Reeder and NetNewsWire. Sync on Reeder has improved, but it’s still too slow to satisfy me. NetNewsWire is good, but it’s not as fast as Feedbin.
I could live with NetNewsWire and iCloud sync, but honestly, I’ve been using Reeder since version 3 in 2016, and I fucking love the app. So, I’ve got a few more weeks to decide, but as it stands now, I’ll most likely be renewing my Feedbin subscription and sticking with Reeder.
