Medium or Wordpress for blogging?
Should I blog on Medium, Wordpress or both?
Have you ever wondered how your stories perform on Medium vs Wordpress? I have and decided to check it out.
I started publishing on Medium in 2015 and on Wordpress.com / ldstephens.net in 2017. I have 249 posts on Medium and 334 posts on Wordpress. Of the 249 post on Medium, 60% were cross-posted from Wordpress. Lifetime views on Medium are 59,410 and 35,606 on Wordpress. That’s 23,804 more views with 85 fewer posts on Medium or an average of 132 more views per post. That is a huge difference.
Yes, I know this isn’t exactly comparing apples to apples, but it is a confirmation that publishing on Medium is going to get me more views than my personal blog.

This post “Two years of Fastmail and how it replaced Gmail” was cross-posted from Wordpress to Medium on the same day April 17, 2017. On Wordpress the post received 535 views and on Medium 5,600 views and 4,600 reads.

I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m leaning toward doing all my blogging here on Medium and leaving Wordpress behind.
