MacOS Big Sur Downloading; Update Not Found, Installation Failed, Forbidden, etc
You may want to wait to install macOS Big Sur

I’m still running Mojave on my MacBook Pro (MBP) avoiding Catalina and looking forward to upgrading to Big Sur as soon as it became available. In the past, I’ve never downloaded a new macOS on the day of release. That said, yesterday I made the mistake of attempting to do just that.
It didn’t work out so good for me and many others who attempted to download Big Sur yesterday. The reason, Apple had major issues that affected Big Sur downloads.
After several failed attempts at downloading Big Sur, I finally gave up. When I went back to using my MBP I found that it was almost entirely unresponsive even after a couple of restarts. As you might guess, I was pissed. What has this damn failed Big Sur update done to my computer?
I grabbed my iPad and did some searching to see if other folks were experiencing the same issues. What I found was that I wasn’t the Lone Ranger. This 9to5 Mac article explained what was happening. There were also 305 comments verifying that the issues existed for many folks. The @applesupport Twitter feed was full of tweets from unhappy folks experiencing the same issues.
I checked the @applesupport Twitter feed today and noticed that folks are having some issues with the Big Sur download and after installing it.
I did get my MBP working normally again. By chance, I thought the problem could be a network issue because the download would disconnect from the network. I guessed that maybe this affected my WiFi connection, so I turned WiFi off and back on. That fixed it. Everything is working normally again.
I’ll be waiting to download and install Big Sur until Apple gets some bugs worked out.
