Fastmate — a native Mac app for Fastmail

I left Gmail for Fastmail five years ago and have never looked back. One thing that’s missing from Fastmail is a Mac app. According to the folks at Fastmail a Mac app is not in their plans. So, how do I get one? Fluid.

Fluid lets you create a Real Mac App (or “Fluid App”) out of any website or web application, effectively turning your favorite web apps into Mac desktop apps. I use Fluid apps for Instapaper and Hemingway Editor, and they work great. But I was never happy with the way the Fastmail app worked.

So, I’ve been using Apple Mail. One problem with Apple Mail is that you can’t snooze emails. So since I can’t snooze an email when I’m on my Mac I have to remember to do it the next time I grab my iPhone or iPad. This is obviously not convenient and I sometimes forget to do it.

The other day I got frustrated using Apple Mail and went searching for an actual Fastmail Mac app and discovered Fastmate by Joel Ekström. I’ve been using it for several days and it’s just what I was looking for. A native Fastmail-wrapper that works just like the web app. You can download Fastmate here.
